You've gotta love a scrappy startup, particularly one that sells a year of unlimited calls to the US and Canada for $199, taxes included.

SunRocket's new $39 LaunchKit (possibly free, depending on current promotions) includes a "Gizmo," cables and simple instructions intended to make for a quick, simple installation.

I googled SunRocket and read reviews on www.dslreports.com, www.voipreview.org and other blogs. To save myself some time, I only read "bad" reviews. Some were legit but most were just misunderstandings or wrong expectations of the VoIP technology. Since voice data is transmitted over the Internet, the first thing that one should do is to test their bandwidth capabilities.

Previously we talked about VoIP, voice over Internet protocol, which is a communications device that uses your bandwidth modem (DSL or cable) to send telephone calls. Actually, you do not need a computer for phone calls only since you connect the adapter (called a Gizmo by SunRocket) to your bandwidth modem, but for added features the computer is a must. The VoIP equipment works perfectly with Macintosh or Windows based PCs.

It's likely your home phone is such familiar technology that you barely think about it. Maybe it's time you did...And that's where the Internet telephone provider SunRocket comes in.

The lump-sum $199 service is a real value, especially since there are no surprise extra monthly taxes or fees, like those that appear on other Internet phone bills. There's no activation fee either...if you live in an area in which [SunRocket Internet Phone Service] is offered, it's a good choice.

...even though SunRocket is cheap (most low-end VoIP services start at $19.95 a month), its set-up took, like, two minutes; normally, you have to spend two hours walking through the set-up with some help from tech support. And its quality and features are impressive.
The voice calling clarity and quality are about as good as a traditional phone's. And its features are as plentiful as those of many other services I've trialed.
